New Music Chamber Ensemble

about

The Assembly Quartet is a professional chamber music ensemble whose mission is to promote music education and expand the enjoyment of music for people of all ages. Formed in 2003 by graduate students at the University of South Carolina, the Quartet’s principal objective was, and remains, to engage with audiences in public schools and communities, working with students and audiences that often have limited experience with chamber music or with the music of our time.

Premieres

The Assembly Quartet makes new music. Recent commissions from composers including Marilyn Shrude, Kurt Isaacson, and Simon Fink have resulted in exciting new additions to the quartet repertoire, and consortium collaborations with other ensembles have resulted in works from Benjamin Dean Taylor and David Maslanka. Assembly is currently organizing a new consortium for the creation of a new work by Paul Lansky - learn more here

New Ears

The Assembly Quartet brings music to new ears. Presenting clinics in schools across the United States, the group introduces young people to chamber music and the collaborative music-making process. And through concerts in venues as diverse as Stanley, North Dakota's Sibyl Center, Columbia, South Carolina's Conundrum Hall, and the Grand Hall of the Fondation des États-Unis in Paris, France, ASQ brings music to new audiences of all ages.
