The Assembly Quartet is a professional chamber music ensemble whose mission is to promote music education and expand the enjoyment of music for people of all ages. Formed in 2003 by graduate students at the University of South Carolina, the Quartet’s principal objective was, and remains, to engage with audiences in public schools and communities, working with students and audiences that often have limited experience with chamber music or with the music of our time.
The Assembly Quartet makes new music. Recent commissions from composers including Marilyn Shrude, Grace Baugher Dunlap, and Om Srivastava have resulted in exciting new additions to the quartet repertoire, and consortium collaborations withother ensembles have resulted in works from Marc Mellits, Carlos Simon, and Martin Bresnick. Be on the lookout for our newest album, a collection of works for saxophone quartet and piano, to be released in Fall 2022!

The Assembly Quartet brings music to new ears. Presenting clinics in schools across the United States, the group introduces young people to chamber music and the collaborative music-making process. Our current Pedagogy Commission Project will result in over 100 minutes of new music designed to be playable by high school-level musicians, furthering the reach of exciting new music to the next generation of saxophonists.
